Vision 2020 National Women’s Equality Initiative is a national coalition of individuals and organizations in all 50 states working together for Women’s Economic, Political and Social Equality in the United States.
History & Background
Lynn H. Yeakel is the founder and president of Vision 2020, a national initiative of Drexel University’s College of Medicine’s Institute For Women’s Health and Leadership. The Institute serves to achieve women’s economic, political and social equality with its focus on the year 2020, the 100th anniversary of women’s voting rights. Its a coalition of nearly 100 national and regional organizations representing over 22 million people, and women leaders who are Delegates across the country. Vision 2020 ignited an American Conversation on Women and Leadership in 2010. Its goal is to achieve shared leadership among women and men in all aspects of American life, beginning with business and government.
Vision 2020 was launched publicly in 2010 when it held its first national event on Oct. 21 to 22. A congress of Delegates from all 50 states and the District of Columbia gathered at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia for “An American Conversation about Women and Leadership.” Its intent was to ignite a national discussion and accelerate the pace of women’s progress by illuminating and eliminating the bias and barriers that perpetuate gender inequality in the United States. That discussion is ongoing and growing.
Vision 2020 is a nonpartisan convener, catalyst and rallying point for both women and men who are committed to gender equality. In that role, Vision 2020 will lead Women 100, the national centennial commemoration of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, granting women the right to vote, which will take place in Philadelphia in 2020.
Vision 2020 launched the Shared Leadership Campaign, a collective impact initiative to achieve 50-50 shared leadership among women and men in business and government.
